Grayson is a trooper and just keeps on being steady and stable. His pressures were on the higher side again today, but still within safe limits. His heartrate came down from the mid 90s to the low 60s today as well, which may indicate that the pain is under control and he is calm. He went for a CT scan this afternoon and in moving him around a lot of stuff in his lungs loosened and has been able to be suctioned out. That is a good sign that he doesn't have pneumonia (a common effect of being on the ventilator) and it also helped lower his intercranial pressure.
I met with all the different surgeons that will be working on fixing Grayson's head and face today. He has a lot of broken bones in his forehead, sinus cavities and eyes, but the doctors told me that they have operated on 4-5 patients this month with very similar injuries so he is in great hands. We are still waiting for his pressure to stabilize before the surgeries and they are tentatively scheduled for next Wednesday.

Wednesday, May 30th Update
Grayson remained very stable today. His pressures were within safe limits all day and if this continues they will be able to stop administering the meds that temporarily paralyze him. The nurse assured me tonight that his blood flow to his brain is very good and his brain is in recovery mode. I can see this just by looking at him--his face has healed so quickly and I can only imagine how much healing is occuring inside his head. Please continue to send all your thoughts, energy, love and prayers to him!

Tuesday, May 29th Update
Grayson is still in a coma, but CAT scans have confirmed that the bleeding in his brain has stopped. Yesterday, he responded to Lauren and several other people by squeezing their hands. Although it’s early in his healing process, Grayson’s doctors and family are hopeful that he will regain consciousness soon and make a full recovery.
Grayson had a rough night last night. His ICP (intercranial pressure) was very elevated and they rushed him down for a CAT scan, but the results showed that everything in his brain was okay and there were no new changes. The high ICP last night is likely due to elevated sodium levels, and over the course of the day they have gradually lowered but are still elevated. To lower his ICP they have administered medicine to temporarily paralyze him. Once his ICP stabilizes they can stop these meds.
He is scheduled to have surgery on Friday to repair the broken bones in his face (jaw, nose, orbit). At that time or earlier they will also take out the ventilator and feeding tube from his mouth and do a tracheotomy and feeding bag directly to his stomach. This will hopefully reduce the risk of developing pneumonia. Grayson can breath on his own, but the ventilator is helping him get more oxygen and expel the carbon dioxide from his lungs.
He has shown his strength and determination on the bike and with his battle against cancer. There is no doubt in our minds that he will make a FULL RECOVERY. What he does need from all his friends and family is there support, love, prayers, and positive energy.
Already, the support has been tremendous. We have been blown away by how many have come to the hospital and by how much love and kindness we have recieved. Thank you all so much for being there for us to cry and laugh with. We will continue to update this blog with Grayson's current status and his steps toward recovery. Please keep him and us in your thoughts often.
