Tuesday, May 29th Update

Grayson is still in a coma, but CAT scans have confirmed that the bleeding in his brain has stopped. Yesterday, he responded to Lauren and several other people by squeezing their hands. Although it’s early in his healing process, Grayson’s doctors and family are hopeful that he will regain consciousness soon and make a full recovery.

Grayson had a rough night last night. His ICP (intercranial pressure) was very elevated and they rushed him down for a CAT scan, but the results showed that everything in his brain was okay and there were no new changes. The high ICP last night is likely due to elevated sodium levels, and over the course of the day they have gradually lowered but are still elevated. To lower his ICP they have administered medicine to temporarily paralyze him. Once his ICP stabilizes they can stop these meds.

He is scheduled to have surgery on Friday to repair the broken bones in his face (jaw, nose, orbit). At that time or earlier they will also take out the ventilator and feeding tube from his mouth and do a tracheotomy and feeding bag directly to his stomach. This will hopefully reduce the risk of developing pneumonia. Grayson can breath on his own, but the ventilator is helping him get more oxygen and expel the carbon dioxide from his lungs.

He has shown his strength and determination on the bike and with his battle against cancer. There is no doubt in our minds that he will make a FULL RECOVERY. What he does need from all his friends and family is there support, love, prayers, and positive energy.

Already, the support has been tremendous. We have been blown away by how many have come to the hospital and by how much love and kindness we have recieved. Thank you all so much for being there for us to cry and laugh with. We will continue to update this blog with Grayson's current status and his steps toward recovery. Please keep him and us in your thoughts often.

My visual of Grayson. He's cranking up a monster hill, looking back at Lauren and teasing- "hurry up slow poke". I am sending positive energy and love to Grayson, Lauren and their families.

I am sending over 20 years of love and prayers to go with the 20+ years of friendship that Gray and I have shared. Although not always in in close contact, when we were able to reunite our friendship 2 years ago it was as if we were teenage buddies again: running around Ras Tanura, scuba diving out to Pointer's reef, kicking it at the pool, driving around in the silver blue auto with the windows down or running away from security, for no reason, to see if they would get out of the truck and chase us on foot down to the beach.

Lauren: I am sorry I have yet to meet you but I know how special you are to Grayson. I know that we will meet when Gray is up an running again.

Alice, Glenna and Glen: My parents, Stewart and I send you a big hug and want you to know that we will be praying for God to continue to shower His love on Grayson and heal him from this tragedy.

Grayson,
I was completely floored yesterday when I learned of your accident. I'm so very sorry.

You were a strong racer, and I have fond memories of competing with you. I've been out of the scene for a while, but you are one of the guys I remember the most- thank you for that.

I hope you are able to read the kind words here by your close friends, as well as casual acquaintances, soon. The best to you and your family. Continue the fight.

be well,
ben

The years I've known Grayson at Weston has shown how headstrong, and focused he is on everything that matters to him. Including Life, he's shown his strength in overcoming his Cancer, he'll continue to show his strength in this battle. Knowing his wife is there along with his family and friends, encouraging him to a full recovery. God bless you and strength you. Aloha ~ Rochelle

Grayson Dawg, I am back in town today after working on your favorite client presentation in beautiful Bartlesville. It went well, and you were sorely missed. The entire CoP gang is praying for you. Just wanted to tell you that. Come on back so I can buy you lunch (even though you still owe me!).

Lauren, will get down to visit ASAP and hope you are fairing well. We love you both.

Lauren, I went to meditation this evening with Jan the yoga instructor. She said to give you her best, and she said that PINK light is the most healing. (I thought white light is.) So I guess that Damas-pink energy and light really does help! She said she, too, will send pink light your way, Grayson. Love, Kathy

Lauren,
As I am sure you know, Grayson will plow through this hurdle with the same determination with which he attacks every other challenge. While I knew him during his time at Stephen F. Austin, Grayson always managed to live life in the most positive, loudest, and vibrant way. He has shared that you have made this life so much more worthy of those efforts. I hope that he can heal with all of the hope, love, and even laughter that must surround him and that I send his way. You both are in my thoughts. I look forward to meeting you Lauren when Grayson is healthy, happy, and well again soon.
Best wishes,
Barrett

Dear Grayson and Lauren,
Our thoughts and prayers are constant with you during this time. I know Grayson is a fighter and he is the strongest person I know - strong in body, mind and spirit. I hope you feel our love and positive vibes coming your way.

I love how Grayson coined his phrases of saying 'Eaasay' and 'Be good'. So I wish him to take it 'eaaashay' and to 'be good'.

Love,
